Saving Shelter Pets fundraiser!

Just a quick blog post to let everyone know that from August 22 to 31, I'll be participating in my third annual Saving Shelter Pets fundraiser, where 20% of the proceeds from my nature-inspired jewelry shop during this time period will be donated to help fund low-cost spay and neuter clinics. As a veterinary student, this is a cause that is pretty close to my heart, for many reasons. An intact female cat, for example, can produce over 100 kittens over her lifetime - and that's not counting her kittens' kittens, or the number of kittens that a male can produce with multiple females. Most of these kittens or puppies won't find homes, and will end up on the streets or euthanized in a shelter. We adopted our cats from the SPCA, and sometimes I think about what might have happened to them if nobody had wanted them, and it makes me pretty bummed.

Spaying and neutering is also in the best interests of both you and your pet - it can help eliminate unwanted behaviours such as urine marking by toms, howling during heats, and blood spotting by female dogs. Additionally, health benefits for your pet include reducing mammary tumors and reproductive tract infections - some of which I've seen first-hand, and are really painful for the animal and just gross for us.

So, if you're interested in supporting this cause, please check out some of the great shops that are participating in this fundraiser over the next two weeks:

And to find out more information about Saving Shelter Pets, check out their site.

Thanks guys!

Oh, one more thing: how do you know I'm actually going to donate this money? Last year I had some questions from buyers about how to know that I was donating the money as promised. I assured them I would send them a copy of my donation receipt at the end of the fundraiser, but forgot, which is terrible. So, here is a screen shot of my Paypal receipt:

And a newsletter after the fundraiser, acknowledging my participation (my name is Victoria, by the way).

Blue Moon

Thank you to MHaynes for including my bracelet in this awesome celestial treasury! As always I am in great company - I adore that midnight soap - it's scented with sandalwood and jasmine. If I hadn't just put in a soap order I would definitely pick some up.

When I was a teenager, my bedroom was decorated in a moon and stars theme - so this totally brings me back. If you have a minute, check this treasury out and leave a comment!

an inki leaf

Way, way back in October, I entered a giveaway by Esque at inki handmade in celebration of her second Etsyversary! I pored over her shop... did I want this beautiful Japanese clutch? Or this charming nautical card set?

Finally though, I found the perfect thing: a gorgeous, hand-stamped linen scarf. I was so excited to receive the delicate little parcel all the way from Switzerland!

The scarf was tied up with a happy little red string and tagged with a linen label with detailed care instructions.

The scarf itself is lovely - surprisingly heavyweight for linen, and the colours are vibrant and I love the leaf motif! (I disliked botany class with a passion, but I don't blame the plants.)

Jasmine approves:

Thanks again to inki for this gorgeous item, and I wish you tons of luck in your third year and every year thereafter!!

In other words, Victoria is trying to write two lit reviews, two research proposals, and a lab report and ought to be preparing for final exams! ha ha ha ha delusional laughter!

Enjoy.

Large interactive wallscape by hjrd design

I discovered this shop a couple of days ago in the forums. I mistakenly thought it was more wall decal art at first, but found out that it was so much more! These are actually magnets, and the artist uses magnetic paint in her daughter's room to stick these to the wall. All the pieces are separate and movable, so your wall art can be rearranged as you see fit! I thought this was so cool, I had to share.

Here is an artist I discovered through Flickr! You guys know how I feel about Chinese food, and here are scrumptious little dumplings, pork buns, and sweet and sour sauce beautifully rendered in teeny tiny scale! I kind of want to eat them, but I think it'd take a lot to fill me up.

Citrus magnets by Eyelet Sage Studio

I don't know how I first found these magnets, but I have had my eye on them for a while. They're bright, happy, and just a little retro, and they make me think of those homemade juice popsicles we used to make when I was a kid.
