Brooke - we're actually in Vancouver for the summer! You know, I'd just assumed this was a female rufous hummingbird, which is the most common one we have out here, but I thought I'd better check before answering. And now looking at my book, I wonder if this might actually be a female Anna's hummingbird - they both have that red throat-patch, but the Anna's is supposed to be more gray and the rufous somewhat orange. Hmm... I may have to find an expert opinion on this one!
wow, victoria these shots are fantastic! I'm assuming they are ruby throated? or do you get other kinds in ontario?
ReplyDeleteSpectacular pictures! What a charming hummingbird! They're so cute when they sit for a moment, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous photos you've been taking...the job sounds like a lot of hard work but incredibly rewarding!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words ladies!
